Radio Flyer Classic Walker Wagon Reviews

BUT. Upon opening the box, the odor of paint and/or plastic was overwhelming. After assembly we decided to let it air out / off-gas for a few days, thinking it might have just been the new-from-the-factory smell. After five days it still emitted the same odor. We even posted a question on the radio flyer web site asking what materials, including paint type, were used. No response after a week. So we returned it and purchased another wooden walker, and there was no odor upon opening the box. The radio flyer is truly a good looking toy, and seems durable, however we did not feel comfortable having an infant play and live with it in the nursery. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful Classic and wonderful, but of limited use., By Wondermom (Texas) - See all my reviews = Durability: = Fun: = Educational: This review is from: Radio Flyer Classic Walker Wagon (Toy) As walkers go, this one gets two thumbs up for being the least likely to tip over, most handsome and classic-looking. It's also useful for holding toys. On the minus side, it does not steer at all, so while it's good for very early walkers just learning to walk, it's very difficult for small, new walkers to push around once they've gathered all their toys inside. Since both my kids seemed to go from first steps to crossing the room in no time, the usefulness of this wagon as a learning aid for walking was VERY limited. I mostly love how it looks and feels like a classic toy that you can hand down from kid to kid and generation to generation. That said, the wood side walls will break after lots of play and use (kids like to get inside for a ride, and they also loved pulling the sides in and out). We ordered replacement wood rails from Radio Flyer, but then it pretty much sat in the corner of the living room collecting toys, and got played with very little afterward. We're now in... But, it just was not as awesome as I would have hoped. It is super cute. And, I was thrilled when she first pushed it around a little bit (this made a great and exciting video when she was about 8-9 months old). But, for any kid that is an early walker and a very coordinated walker...it is a very frustrating toy because the wheels do not turn. So, she can push it in a straight line until she hits something....and thats it....she cannot turn or maneuver it in any way. So, I feel that this wagon is pretty useless past the age that the child is walking really well - and for some kids thats pretty quick. I know she could probably put some toys in it and pull/push it around or whatever, but she would enjoy that more if the wheels turned. She has pretty much abandoned the wagon except for the random idea to try to stand in it or use it to climb up to something higher. |
