He hopped on the "My First Big Flyer" and off he went, like he had been riding for months. I was just perfect and the adjustable seat will grow with him, until he is ready to move up to the next size. The local box stores were sold out 2 weeks before Christmas, I took a chance and ordered this one, we received it in about a week. I could not have been more pleased. The price was right, the size was right and best of all he loves it. It looked a bit small when I put it together, not the size of the "Big Wheel" I remember cruising in as a kid. But it fit my 2 year old perfectly. (It also fit my 4 year old.) It did take a little time for him to learn to pedal. (Pedaling a more upright trike seems easier on toddlers, but they can learn to pedal this way, too. It just take more time and practice.)It does require assembly, and assembles in typical Radio Flyer fashion. (If you've assembled one Radio Flyer toy, you can assemble them all. They all assemble in the same ways.) The only reason this is getting 4 stars and not 5 is the quality of the parts. Radio Flyer once made all super durable stuff. The quality seems to have gone down in recent years. This trike is molded plastic with plastic wheels. The parts look and feel more cheaply made than they used to be. (It has thus far held up fine, but I don't anticipate the years and years of use you could get with older... I guess I expected a more sturdy look and feel. Also my daughter just turned 3 and is not tall for her age and is already using it at the last setting for the seat. We will prob be returning this for the next size up. It was a bit hard to put the wheels on but other than that the assembly was pretty easy. It just looks and feels so cheap and plastic-ish. Inside on the smooth floor is slips and does not grip well but outside on the side walk it rides better. |
